According to a report from Nikkei Net, Nintendo will introduce a new iteration of this Nintendo DS later this year, featuring a built-in camera and music playback. The new version of the DS is also reported to have improved wireless functions. LOS ANGELES (AFP) Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West will not face serious charges over a scuffle with a photographer at Los Angeles Airport whose camera equipment was damaged, prosecutors said Friday.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said it would not file felony counts against West over the September 11 incident.
Instead the case file has been forwarded to the city attorney's office, which could bring lesser misdemeanor charges against the musician.
West and a bodyguard were arrested following the incident, which occurred when a paparazzi tried to photograph him

At about 7:50 a.m. outside the passenger security screening area in Terminal 4 Kayne West and his manager started to pull the camera from the paparazzos hands, while he is screaming Police! Police! Help me! Crowley smashes the camera to the ground and Kayne West throws down a flash. After this incident, Crowley tried to grab the camera from the guy who was filming the scene and broke it before the security arrived.The rapper and his manager were released on the same day but they had to pay $20,000 each for getting out of police custody.Kayne West, 31, has won nine Grammy Awards since he started his musical career and became a record producer for most rap and R-B stars. SCOTTSDALE - American Traffic Solutions Inc. announced Thursday that investment bank Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has acquired a minority stake.
The Scottsdale-based photo-enforcement company, which is privately held, declined to disclose the amount invested. It said the funds would be used to support growth in its traffic safety enforcement and electronic toll payment businesses.

The program is being launched on short notice after the lifting of a contract freeze resulting from a losing bidder's pending contract challenge.
Department of Public Safety Lt. James Warriner says the program will begin with three vehicles deployed in the Phoenix area.
Warriner says there will be four more mobile units within a week and five more weekly until there's 40 by the end of November. He says the first fixed camera should be up by late October.
The DPS contract with Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. calls for 100 fixed and mobile cameras to be deployed statewide within several months.

Cologne, Germany - A Fujifilm camera that uses two lenses to create three-dimensional images is among eye-catching new products at the Photokina trade show currently under way in Cologne, Germany.
The Japanese company said Wednesday the Finepix Real 3D System can take both still images and video in 3D. Every exposure comprises two images taken from slightly different angles, creating the same effect as seeing with two eyes.
Photokina, held every two years, opened Tuesday and runs for six days. It has 1,500 exhibitors from 49 nations

Phase One is fleshing out its transformation from a maker of high-end image sensors for others' cameras into a maker of full-on cameras.
At the Photokina camera show in Germany, the company announced 'successful alliances' with Leica Camera, Mamiya, and Hartblei to bring third-party lenses to its Phase One 645 camera system, and it said it will begin selling several lenses of its own by the end of the year. Those lens models are a 28mm f4.5, a 45mm f2.8, an 80mm f2.8, a 120mm f4.0, a 150mm f2.8, and a 75-150mm f4.5 zoom.
The professional camera, with a 60-megapixel sensor and a starting price of $41,990, is also due to ship by the end of the year. Coming in the first quarter of 2009 will be an 80mm leafshutter lens and a vertical grip.
The company also announced at the camera show an upgrade to the professional version of its its raw-image editing software

The companies have formed the Metatdata Working Group and released a first set of guidelines that attempts to standardize some issues that can crop up as metadata travels from cameras to different computers, software, and Web sites. The group announced its work at the Photokina camera show Wednesday in Germany.
'Whether you're a soccer mom uploading photos to a Kodak gallery, or a pro selling images on Getty, these are issues everybody deals with,' said Josh Weisberg, Microsoft's director of digital imaging evangelism and the metadata group's chairman and founder.
For example, when moving a photo from one application to another, a vertically orientated photo could be rotated 90 degrees into a landscape orientation, or captions and descriptive keywords could be lost. Part of the problem is that there are multiple ways to record metadata, including EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format), IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council), and Adobe's XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform).
The working group has produced guidelines to try to bring common practices to metadata areas including keywords, description, creator, star rating, orientation, and location, Weisberg said

VANDALS twisted a speed camera away from the road in an apparent bid to stop it catching any motorists.
But the person responsible did not realise the camera in Audley Range, Blackburn, had not been working for three years.

Technically speaking, Jeffas said nothing will be edited out - but not everything will be recorded and aired.
The governing body could choose to either record caucus meetings, which are usually held in the late afternoon, or the Town Council sessions, held every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. And if the decision is to videotape the evening meetings, town leadership will then need to determine whether or not to include comments from the public in the video.
There are pros and cons to any route the council might take.
'There is the danger that people will play to the camera because they know they'll be on TV,' said Drumeler, who talked to officials in Jersey City, Caldwell, and Somerville, among other municipalities, as part of his research for the TV subcommittee. 'You hope that some deference will be shown and that people will follow the rules of decorum. But you can't always control that.'
He added that some municipalities, like Jersey City, try to curb attention-grabbing behavior by only taping caucus meetings, or by excluding the public comments portion of the regular meeting.
'I know in Jersey City that has worked out well,' Drumeler said.
The exclusion of public comments doesn't sit well with Troyer, a vocal critic of the town leadership who frequently speaks at council meetings

Lollipop camera scheme to be rolled out nationwide Hidden security cameras could be mounted in the poles of all lollipop men and women in Britain following successful trials by several local authorities, it has emerged.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities today released dramatic security camera footage of the suicide attack on the Marriott Hotel in the Pakistani capital that depicted the final minutes before a truck packed with 600 kg of explosives blew up, causing widespread destruction.
Fifty-three people, including Czech ambassador Ivo Zdarek, were killed and 266 others injured in the attack, which was described by interior ministry chief Rehman Malik as the biggest bombing in the country's history.
Malik said the attacker rammed his truck into barriers at the hotel's main gate after the guards tried to stop him. An ambulance sent to attend to a sick guest at the hotel was unable to enter the compound as its path was blocked by the truck, he said

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department got a chance to use its thermal imaging camera to save a life this morning.
A 52-year-old man was on the floor of his burning house on the Southside when JFRD arrived to find the house filled with thick smoke.
Rescue personnel used the new camera, which helps them 'see' through smoke and walls, and soon found the man, who was coughing

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro police are searching for a man who they say exposed himself to a young girl at a south side retail store.
Authorities believe they have the suspect caught on a security camera. They're hoping the pictures will lead to him being put behind bars. The video actually shows the unidentified man in action.

Pommerening also is accused of inappropriately touching a student for sexual reasons while the student was somehow incapacitated or physically helpless.

Pommerening, a massage therapist for 26 years, was arraigned Wednesday in Holland District Court on charges of using a computer to commit a crime, capturing or distributing the image of an unclothed person and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The Zeeland man could face up to seven years in prison if convicted.
Two students and a part-time instructor at the downtown Zeeland school, closed since late July, told police in May they found a hidden pinhole camera in a ceiling tile in the 'gold room,' one of at least two massage rooms in the building. The instructor also told police she found a similar camera in an air vent around Thanksgiving 2007, but only told her husband at the time.
While staff and students knew there were three visible security cameras in the building that could be monitored from a computer, none knew about the 'gold room' camera, they told police. In the gold room, both students and clients have been in 'various stages of undress,' including fully undressed, at times. As part of their training, students practiced massages at a discounted rate of $20

Sept. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Hoya Corp., Japan's largest maker of optical glass, will stop producing digital cameras in Japan and move output to its factories in Vietnam and the Philippines by March 31 to improve competitiveness.
Hoya will offer early retirement to 250 of its employees at its factory in Mashiko, Tochigi prefecture, spokeswoman Akiko Maeyama said by phone today, without specifying the total number of workers. The relocation will cost Tokyo-based Hoya several billion yen,'' Maeyama said, confirming a Nikkei newspaper report.
The company acquired the factory, which also produces medical equipment, as part of its purchase of camera maker Pentax Corp. last year, the Nikkei said

Mavs owner Mark Cuban told the Dallas Morning News the issue has been dealt with.
'I have explained to him that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV,' Cuban told the paper.
This latest incident adds to a recent history of controversy. Late last season, Howard admitted to occasionally smoking marijuana. In July, he was arrested for street racing in North Carolina

The digital still camera market got something new earlier this year when Casio launched its Exilim F1 model with the ability to take super slow-motion video and perform a host of neat tricks thanks to a burst shooting mode. Casio's newest camera, the Exilim EX-FH20, was launched Tuesday and features most of the same technology but is more compact, offers a higher resolution and is cheaper.
It's aimed at a wider audience than the F1, said Atsushi Shibutani, manager of the digital camera unit at Casio's product development center in Hamura, west of Tokyo.
Casio's consumer research found many people interested in the high-speed shooting functions it offered but there were put off by the US$1,000 price tag and the size. The EX-FH20 will cost around US$600.

When Casio announced its high-speed megazoom, the EX-F1, the novelty of its 1,200 frames per second maximum movie frame rate sent creative juices flowing. But a variety of factors--disappointing camera features and quality, a too-high $999 price tag, relatively limited distribution and a somewhat problematic file format--combined to keep the F1 from becoming a really viable product. Casio seems to have learned a lesson from that experience. I've been pointed to a blog that makes a compelling case that they did just that. Using still shots of the Gibson interview with Palin compared to similar Gibson interviews with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, it seems this blogger has proven it to be an open and shut case of manipulation of the viewer. The writer shows how ABC used special camera placements and lenses to make Governor Palin seem small and Charlie Gibson seem overpowering and large by comparison.

The 'Stronger' singer was said to have approached the paparazzo, who works for gossip website TMZ.com, at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday morning (11.09.08), and 'grabbed his camera, threw it to the ground and broke it into pieces'.
The website report adds: 'Our photographer was then approached by the road manager who 'grabbed his camera, ripped off the microphone and viewfinder and smashed it to the ground.'
The 31-year-old rapper was then arrested and taken to a police station in Los Angeles

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Matsushita (6752.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said it would launch the world's smallest digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, targeting female users who want a high-performance machine that does not weigh too much.

SLR cameras, high-end models with interchangeable lenses, are the fastest growing and most lucrative segment of the digital camera market. But some compact camera users are reluctant to move up to SLR models because they are bulkier and heavier

Outside of the iPod app, there are a few other new features sprinkled around the iPhone OS update. For example, the Parental Restrictions setting now allows you to turn off access to the iPhones camera, which not only removes the Camera application from the Home screen, but also disallows access from third-party applications that implement camera features.
For the security conscious, the Passcode Lock section of Settings now offers an option to erase all data on the iPhone after 10 failed attempts at entering the passcode (which presumably worksyoull pardon me if I didnt test its effectiveness). Apple also made a handful of security updates, including preventing applications from viewing each others data and closing a loophole with the Emergency Call feature of the Passcode Lock.
Those who use the iPhones stock earbuds (or have a third-party headphone adapter with a click control) will also find that in addition to clicking once to play or pause music and twice to skip to the next track, a triple-click will now jump back to the previous track.

Because the internal mirror system is absent, the camera's size and weight is half that of standard digital single-lens reflex DSLR cameras, weighing in at just 385 grams (0.85 lbs).
Without the internal mirror system, the G1's flange back -- the distance between the mount and the image sensor -- has been cut from 40 mm to approximately 20 mm.
