In the 20 years since the home video camera hit the market, camera technology has improved dramatically so that amateur photographers now can easily record high-definition videos.
Sony Corp. claims to have released the world's first home video camera in 1980 and it has the largest share of the market, although it faces strong competition from Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.
However, widespread use of home video cameras did not really begin until Sony released the Handycam series in September 1985
